By introducing electron-donating substituents, Fabian could dramatically enhance the activity of aromatic acyclic guanidines,in the ring opening polymerization of lactide as described in a forthcoming issue of Macromolecules. This work lays the foundation for designing photoswitchable polymerization catalysts.
